{"id":88421,"date":"2026-02-05T11:00:59","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T16:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fidoalliance.org\/?p=88421"},"modified":"2026-02-05T11:01:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T16:01:06","slug":"biometric-update-fidos-andrew-shikiar-predicts-the-triumph-of-wallets-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fidoalliance.org\/biometric-update-fidos-andrew-shikiar-predicts-the-triumph-of-wallets-in-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Biometric Update: FIDO\u2019s Andrew Shikiar predicts the triumph of wallets in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Passkey champions to develop certification profile as focus turns to digital credentials<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the annual Identity Identity &amp; Policy Forum, it\u2019s a tradition for Andrew Shikiar, CEO of the FIDO Alliance, to reflect on his predictions from the previous year and offer predictions for the coming one. 2025 was a pivotal year for FIDO:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biometricupdate.com\/202511\/with-passkey-sign-in-secured-fido-alliance-looks-to-frontier-of-digital-credentials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passkeys<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 FIDO\u2019s raison d\u2019etre in recent years \u2013 finally became a mainstream authentication method, marking a long-term win for the Alliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his keynote,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biometricupdate.com\/companies\/fido-alliance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FIDO Alliance<\/a>&nbsp;CEO Andrew Shikiar estimates over 4 billion passkeys are now being used to secure sign-ins around the world. \u201cThat\u2019s a massive number considering we introduced passkeys in 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shikiar\u2019s speech runs through his record on predictions he made at the beginning of 2025, and comes out looking pretty clairvoyant.
